Stovetop Barbeque (Sloppy Joe) Sandwiches
A long-time family favorite recipe is stove-top barbeque for sandwiches. Maybe that makes it a sloppy joe recipe. We usually use ground venison. Other meats, jackfruit, or crumbled tempeh could work. It freezes well so we usually make a double batch and freeze half. Serve with a salad or coleslaw in the summer, or cooked veggies like sweet potatoes or brussels sprouts in cooler weather. Yum!
1 lb ground meat or equivalent
1 tsp garlic, minced
1 tsp liquid smoke
1 tsp black pepper
1 Tbl Worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup brown sugar
8 oz salsa
8 oz ketchup or tomato sauce
A few dashes of soy sauce
Brown the meat in a large skillet or sauce pan. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer at least 30 minutes.
