Plan a visit to a public garden

We are fortunate to have many public gardens in Minnesota. This summer, I have visited some old favorites along with several that I had never been to. These visits have been uplifting! I encourage you to go, too.

The University of Minnesota has a helpful directory where you can find gardens by region of the state. Some of my favorites from earlier this summer are the Japanese Garden at Carleton College, the Lyndale Park Gardens by Lake Harriet and Arneson Acres in Edina.

Visiting a garden or park has lots of benefits. You can get in your daily steps in a nice setting. Being outside in nature can reduce stress. You might learn about a new plant or technique to try at home. It’s fun to meet a friend at a garden and is an activity that works with social distancing.

This photo is from the Lake Harriet Rose Garden. I think it is the Above and Beyond climbing rose. Its first bloom was spectacular - the shrubs were completely covered with flowers. It had a smaller round of blooms recently.
