Unconscious Body Patterns
Summer lingers. Eventually, though, winter will be here. A common postural response is the cold-weather shoulder hunch.
Other examples of posture habits - often, unconscious - that I see include people leaning one way or the other, standing with their weight on only one leg, standing with the pelvis pushed forward, or always crossing their legs the same way when they sit.
Many repetitions of these actions can negatively impact the body’s structure, creating imbalances or twists, among other results.
Taking care of your body with moderate exercise, stretching, getting enough sleep, and eating healthy most of the time will help keep your structure in good form. In addition, therapeutic bodywork can guide your body to release strains and tightness. Touch can be good for our nervous systems, too, as I wrote about last month.
