Conti Structural Integration During the Stay-at-home Order

I am thinking about you: my clients, other readers, and friends - even when I cannot be in the office doing bodywork. I look forward seeing you again once we can safely be together. I am trying to use this time away from providing hands-on therapy in a beneficial way. I want to return to our work together in a good place professionally, physically, and mentally.

To maintain my practice, I have a focus on learning. Learning new things helps me remain hopeful and excited about bodywork. I am catching up on work-related reading. Books, journal articles, and conference proceedings help me discover new techniques, review anatomy, and explore the latest thinking on manual therapy. Webinars on topics ranging from hip restrictions to migraines give me more tools to try with clients. I keep in touch with teachers, colleagues, my school, and trade associations. They provide support and important news regarding social distancing and related requirements, and office hygiene. They also consider professional and personal development through offerings like mindful movement gatherings. I am pleased to have attended two such gatherings by the marvelous Liz Stewart. She offered her guidance through my school, The Guild for Structural Integration.

At home, time in the garden, video chats with family and friends, the pets, exercise, and reading all contribute to my well-being. I am one of the many fans of jigsaw puzzles. Fortunately, we had several large ones on hand. A friend loaned me a number of beautiful, wood Liberty Puzzles. They are a delight to assemble! Happily, my regular yoga class now meets via Zoom. I have also tried several on-line yoga classes.

I work to maintain my equanimity during these times, which are so different from what we are used to. Whether your daily routine is at a workplace or in your home, I hope that you are able to find moments of calm and things to enjoy and appreciate. Best wishes for your ongoing safety, health, and well-being.
